Late-Blooming Apricot That Beats the Frost

The Harglow apricot has a clever trick up its sleeve — it blooms later than most apricot varieties, which means its blossoms are far less likely to be caught by a late spring frost. The result is more consistent fruit set and a more reliable harvest in Ontario's unpredictable spring climate. Sweet, smooth-textured fruit makes the wait very worthwhile.

Why Gardeners Love It

  • ❄️ Late blooming — flowers later in spring, significantly reducing frost damage risk
  • 🍑 Sweet, smooth-textured fruit — excellent flavour for fresh eating and preserving
  • 🌱 Self-fertile — one tree produces a good crop on its own
  • 🌿 More reliable harvests — late bloom means fewer lost crops to spring frosts
  • 🌱 Supplied bare root — plant in early spring for best results

Pollination

Self-fertile — one tree will produce on its own. For a significantly larger harvest, plant alongside Harcot Apricot, also available at Catkins Nursery. More pollinators = more bounty!

Growing Notes

Prefers full sun and a warm, sheltered location away from frost pockets. Well-drained soil is essential. Water regularly in the first season. Ripens in early to mid-August. Hardiness Zone: 4–5 — best suited to southern Ontario and sheltered locations.
