Bing Cherry
The Classic Sweet Cherry
The Bing is the cherry that set the standard for sweet cherries worldwide. Large, deep mahogany-red fruit with firm, juicy flesh and an intensely rich flavour — this is the cherry you find at farmers markets and dream about all winter. Growing your own means picking them at peak ripeness, which is a whole different experience.
Why Gardeners Love It
- 🍒 The benchmark sweet cherry — large, firm, deeply flavourful fruit that's hard to beat
- 🔴 Deep mahogany-red skin — stunning at harvest and irresistible to eat
- 🌿 Heavy producer — abundant crops when properly pollinated
- ❄️ Cold hardy — well suited to Ontario's climate in appropriate zones
- 🌱 Supplied bare root — plant in early spring for best results
Pollination
Bing requires a pollinator — it is not self-fertile. Plant alongside another sweet cherry variety for fruit production. Great options from our collection include Lapins, Stella, and Van. More pollinators = more bounty!
Growing Notes
Prefers full sun. Water regularly in the first season. Ripens in late June to mid-July. Hardiness Zone: 4–5 — best suited to southern Ontario and sheltered locations.
